JET STREAM CHARACTERISTICS
FLOW PATTERN
  The wind patterns of a jet
stream flowing over North
America are depicted as
arrows. The length of the
arrow is proportional to the
wind velocity. This is a typical
"kinked" pattern, that can lead
to floods or droughts if it
doesn't move over long
periods of time.
JET STREAM CROSS SECTION
 The diagram is a cross section
through a typical jet stream. Kt is
knots. The small central region
is the Jet Streak that play a large
role in storm development.

developing depression.
